I've always put mine in the tub too. (Mom's know best!) I took my blinds outside not too long ago and cleaned them with the hose, and a spray cleaner. The pressure of the water did most of the work, so I didn't have to clean each slat individually.

Try the swiffer handheld dusters. They are disposable so you can toss the dirt right out. You might have to use the whole box to clean the whole house, but they really work.
Just shut the blinds one way and swipe back and forth cleaning about 4 or 5 slats at a time. Just skip over the cords on the sides. Then repeat on the other side.
If you have spills that won't come off with dusting, just use a damp cloth or one of those magic erasers will do the trick.

I have seen an item in catalogs and at hardware stores that dusts blinds. It has five or six extensions that fit across five or six of the slats and you rub it along the width of the blind. You could also try a vacuum cleaner attachment that has a brush if the dust is stuck on pretty good.

Good luck.
