I think most prefer inside mount. It is a little cleaner looking than an outside mount application. I think those who mount on the outside do it because of lack of depth. For most faux wood blinds you will need 3" of depth to have a fully recessed fit. However you only need 1 1/2" of depth to do a minimum inside mount. This just means it will stick out into the room a little. This actually is very common due to the new windows like Pella and Anderson which have very little depth to mount. If you are afraid to do this yourself get a handyman. They usually only charge you 20 or 30 an hour and it should not take them long.
